Hard Drive Packaging Information

It is extremely important to package your media correctly when sending it in for data recovery. Generally it needs to be in a box twice its size surrounded by foam or bubble wrap or both. USB sticks, camera cards and other removable media should be packaged at least in a padded envelope. Do not ship this type of media in a regular envelope because the postal sorting machines will destroy it. Below are some pictures that show different packing methods of a hard drive. Desktop and Laptop Hard Drives have similar packaging methods.

Hard Drive Box

This is a factory style box for packing a hard drive that uses a plastic style molding. If you buy a hard disk drive you should save the box for future use.

HArd drive in Foam Box

This is a special made foam box used to ship hard drives that ITS - Data Recovery uses. If you ever get one of these boxes save it. There is also a version of this box for laptop drives.

Below are some pictures that demonstrate the best way to pack a hard drive if you don't have a special box. This method uses both bubble wrap and peanuts.
